Burton Albion FC has helped to kick-started a county wide campaign urging people to give unwanted electrical goods a new lease of life.
Manager Paul Peschisolido and defender Richard Jackson have teamed up with Staffordshire County Council to encourage people to clear out their clutter and recycle outmoded items.
Small kitchen appliances such as toasters, kettles and microwaves can be recycled along with hairdryers, electric toothbrushes and shavers.
Electrical DIY and gardening equipment including drills, power tools and lawn mowers can also be recycled a well as mobile phones, speakers and electronic toys.
Unwanted equipment can be taken to each of the county council's 14 household waste recycling centres which can be found at:
• Bemersley Road, Biddulph, ST8 7QT
• Pendeford Mill Lane, Bilbrook, WV8 1JJ
• Ring Road, Burntwood, WS7 1JQ
• Shobnall Road, Burton, DE14 2AU
• Lichfield Road, Cannock, WS11 8NQ
• New Haden Road, Cheadle, ST10 1FB
• Fowlchurch Road, Leek, ST13 6BG
• Trent Valley Road, Lichfield, WS13 6EU
• Leycett Lane, Newcastle, ST5 6AD
• Station Road, Rugeley, WS15 2HE
• St Albans Road, Stafford, ST16 3DR
• Beacon Road, Stone, ST15 0NN
• Pennycroft Lane, Uttoxeter, ST14 7BW
• Botterham Lane, Wombourne, DY3 4RA
The goods will then be stripped down and as much of the material as possible will be saved, melted and made into new equipment.
A typical iron contains enough steel to make 13 food cans and its plastic casing can be used to make new goods such as hairdryers or games consoles.
County councillor Robert Marshall, Cabinet member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, said: "This is the ideal time to clear out any unwanted clutter or broken items that were replaced over Christmas. Recycling goods is the best way to dispose of them and, in so doing, you will be safe in the knowledge that you are doing something positive to help the planet."
Burton Albion FC Manager Paul Peschisolido added: "As a club I think it's important that we are helping to promote this campaign. Personally I had no idea of the amount of household items that can be recycled so I really hope this raises the awareness across the area."
